County Preserves Serrano Library Access

Phelan – The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors today approved an agreement to allow the County Library to continue to provide the Serrano High School library with electronic access to its automated circulation system and regular materials deliveries during the school year, despite the fact that a new County library will soon be open in Phelan.

“During these uncertain economic times, collaboration and sharing of resources is more important than ever,” said Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt, who represents the area.  “The partnership between our County Library and the Snowline School District has been a good example of intergovernmental cooperation that has resulted in improved services for the community.”

Serrano High School has allowed the County to share its library facility as a substitute for an actual County branch library.  In exchange, the County has been allowing the high school library access and use of its automated circulation system for all bibliographic control and materials circulations functions.

A new county library facility is being built on Clovis Road in Phelan and is expected to be completed this summer. Once complete, there will no longer be a need for a joint-use library at Serrano High School. However, under this agreement, the County library will continue to provide the high school with access to its automated circulation system at no cost to the school district.
