Expansion of Lucerne Valley Fire Station Approved

Lucerne Valley – The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors today approved a project to make improvements to Lucerne Valley Fire Station No. 111.  The $167,500 project will add approximately 1,400 sq ft to the existing apparatus bays to accommodate a newly acquired fire engine.

“Ensuring adequate fire station facilities in our communities is critical for preserving public safety,” said Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt.  “This expansion to the fire station will help protect the newly acquired fire engine from the elements and ensure that it is maintained in top condition and available to serve the public safety needs of the community.”

The County recently acquired a new brush patrol fire truck for the Lucerne Valley area, however there is insufficient space for the vehicle to fit into the existing apparatus bays at the station. The fire station currently stores a Type 1 medic engine and an ambulance in the two existing apparatus bays, but the bays are not large enough to properly store the two vehicles as well as the new brush patrol engine.

In addition to the expanded space to be added, the existing  bays will  also  receive  larger  roll-up  doors  to  allow  for  easier  access  in  and  out  of  the station.  The contract for $167,500 is being awarded to the lowest bidder, Robert Riddle of Lucerne Valley.

Construction is scheduled to be complete in June.
