San Bernardino – Nick Alan Thompson, 43, of Yucaipa, surrendered to Investigators with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office on Friday, March 27, 2009. His surrender related to an auto insurance fraud investigation.

In September 2008, deputies from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department located a 2007 Suzuki GSX600 motorcycle, which had been reported as stolen. The motorcycle was located in Thompson’s garage. Immediately after recovering the motorcycle, sheriff’s deputies determined the motorcycle was never actually stolen, and in fact the owner of the motorcycle had known of its whereabouts.

The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Auto Insurance Fraud Unit followed up on the investigation.  It was determined the motorcycle was reported stolen by the owner for the purpose of insurance fraud.

Thompson’s role was to dispose of the motorcycle so that the registered owner could place a claim with the insurance company, and be compensated for the loss of the vehicle. Upon completion of the investigation, a felony arrest warrant was issued for Thompson.

Thompson agreed to surrender to DA Investigators, who took him into custody for the outstanding warrant.  Thompson was booked at the West Valley Detention Center, and bail was set at $50,000.
