CA GOP Chairman’s Report

Posted By Ron Nehring on May 13, 2009

It’s been a busy two weeks at the California Republican Party.  Building the ranks of all of our statewide volunteer organizations is an important task for the CRP in the coming months, and we’ll have much more to report on that new project shortly.

  • Congratulations to Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee on his election as the new Assembly Republican Leader.  I’m looking forward to working closely with Sam to send more Republican reinforcements to Sacramento next year. Statement

  • Last Tuesday I was in Dallas in my role as Chairman of the RNC State Chairmen’s Committee for a regional roundtable meeting with colleagues from eight other states sharing information on the political environment, campaign programs and approaches for building our party.  While we were meeting, we got the news that Sen. Arlen Specter decided to make it official and switch parties.  We issued a strong statement on the subject, making clear the Senator didn’t switch parties on principle, but rather out of pure political self-interest.  Read the statement, which was picked up in the Los Angeles Times and on the Flashreport.

  • RoadshowThe following day we launched a new program at the California Republican Party called the CRP Roadshow, a compilation of three different presentations we are making available to Republican county committees, Republican clubs, organizations, and special events.  Consider it a speakers program on steroids, with three distinction presentations available and given by experts recruited by the CRP.  Available presentations are a comprehensive Political Briefing, a technology briefing called Party Building in the Digital Age, and our Networks coalition building briefing.  To request a presentation for your upcoming event, visit the CRP Roadshow page.
  • The CRP Board of Directors met and endorsed Republican Teresa Hernandez in the special election taking place in the 32nd Congressional district in Los Angeles to fill the seat vacated by Rep. Hilda Solis when she was named Secretary of Labor.  Teresa is a sharp candidate and I encourage you to take a look at her campaign website.  This is the only Congressional special election taking place in the state until the 10th district opens up later in the year and you can help Teresa in this important election.

  • Special Election LinkThe CRP Political Department is working to provide California Republican voters with information on the forthcoming May 19 special election.  The latest Field Poll has Propositions 1A – 1E all trailing by significant numbers, consistent with the CRP’s recommended “no” on each. We have set up a special information page on the special election and changed the welcoming page on the CRP website to promote our positions as well.

  • On Saturday CRP Finance Chairman Tony Krvaric and I drove up to Bakersfield to attend a packed California Republican Assembly Convention where I had the opportunity to provide the members gathered with the CRP’s comprehensive Strategic Briefing providing a line by line assessment of the current political environment and review of our strategic plan moving forward.  If you’re interested in bringing this presentation to your Republican organization, complete the form on the Roadshow page.  Press release: CRP Chairman Ron Nehring Addresses CRA Convention: Our Opponents’ Ideas Have Failed

  • NPEAThe CRP Political Department provided you with a summary of the National Political Environment Assessment released by Wilson Research Services.  The national political dynamic is shifting to Republicans on the economy because so many more Americans are now concerned the government under Barack Obama and the Democrats will do too much, rather than too little.  Of course, they’re right.

Thank you for your leadership in putting Republican ideas into action in your part of California.
