Airplane Crash in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE – On 7-5-09, at about 1:00 p.m., sheriff’s deputies and emergency personnel responded to areport of an airplane crash. The location of the event was in the meadow southeast of the South Lake Tahoe Airport Terminal near the Upper Truckee River. Upon arrival, emergency responders found a fixed wing, single engine, Cessna airplane with one male adult occupant deceased. A search of the area revealed no other passengers or victims.
The scene will be secured by sheriff’s deputies until the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA conclude their investigation of the crash. Preliminary information indicates that the pilot was attempting to take-off from the airport when the crash occurred. At this time, it is unknown why the event happened; the name of the pilot is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
