STEVE POIZNER ADDS TO HIS CENTRAL VALLEY SUPPORT
Posted By Press Release on July 14, 2009
SACRAMENTO – Steve Poizner for Governor 2010 today announced several new endorsements from the Central Valley, growing his local support in the Republican primary.
Announcing their support for Commissioner Poizner’s candidacy for governor today are:
- James Ridenour, Mayor of Modesto
- James DeMartini, Stanislaus County Supervisor and Stanislaus GOP Chairman
- Leroy Ornellas, San Joaquin County Supervisor
- Kenneth Stieger, Sacramento County Assessor
- Donald Schrader, Former Yuba County Supervisor
“Steve Poizner understands that temporary budget fixes, like taking money from the counties and cities, won’t work,” said Mayor Ridenour. “Steve will bring the same top down review to the Governor’s Office that he completed at the Department of Insurance, which reduced the operating budget by nearly 15%.”
In addition to today’s endorsements, Commissioner Poizner has previously announced the support of other leaders from the Central Valley, including State Senator Dave Cogdill, Assemblyman Tom Berryhill, Assemblyman Bill Berryhill, and Assemblyman Danny Gilmore. Earlier this week, nationally renowned Republican activist Ward Connerly announced his endorsement of Steve for Governor.
“Steve Poizner understands the needs of the Central Valley and, in particular, the fact that water is the lifeblood of our economy. He knows that we cannot create jobs or be an agricultural supplier to the world without a steady, reliable, and consistent flow of water,” said Supervisor DeMartini. “As Governor, Steve will stand behind a big, bold, and comprehensive solution to our water crisis–not just a short-term band-aid–that prepares California for the challenges we face in the century ahead.”
“The Central Valley and its agriculture are key to California and I am so pleased to have earned the support of these local leaders,” said Commissioner Poizner. “Our campaign has been focused on earning grassroots support which will carry us to victory and these endorsements today will go a long way in helping achieve that goal.”
