(Lodi) – Today, San Joaquin County Sheriff Steve Moore and Amador County Sheriff Martin Ryan announced their support for Alan Nakanishi in his Board of Equalization race for the open 2nd BOE District. Current Board of Equalization Member Bill Leonard is retiring due to term limits.
“Alan Nakanishi has always been a friend to law enforcement,” said San Joaquin County Sheriff Steve Moore. “As an Assembly Member, Alan worked tirelessly to fight for lower taxes while still maintaining a high level of public safety. Alan understands that our government must focus on its spending priorities, which includes strong law enforcement. He will take that passion and dedication with him as a member of the Board of Equalization. I am glad to join Sheriff Ryan and others in supporting Alan Nakanishi for the Board of Equalization.”
In addition to consolidating Republican support, Alan Nakanishi will also be featured on over ninety percent of the Republican slate mailings in the 2010 June Primary, further strengthening his campaign in the 2nd District.
First elected to Assembly in 2002, Alan Nakanishi quickly earned a reputation as a fiscally conservative, taxpayer and small business advocate who fought to cut wasteful spending and oppose higher taxes. In 2004, Alan was a coauthor of California’s landmark Workers Compensation Reform law, which has resulted in lower premiums, better coverage for workers, and an end to the spiraling cost of workers’ compensation in California. Prior to joining the Assembly, Alan Nakanishi was elected to the Lodi City Council in 1998 and served as Mayor in 2001.
Alan Nakanishi earned his medical degree from Loma Linda University, and after completing medical training at USC Medical Center, he served as a Major in the U.S. Army, leading a surgical department at McDonald Army Hospital. Doctor Nakanishi is a prominent Ophthalmologist and co-founder of Delta Eye Medical Group, a six physician group with three offices in the Central Valley. He and his wife Sue live in Lodi.
