Cell-Fare the Latest Government Freebie

Posted By Press Release on October 29, 2009

Stockton (CA) -While government spending is reaching new heights and the federal debt has soared to $1.4 trillion you might expect the government to tighten its belt.  Rather than seek cost cutting measures the government has continued to grow entitlements and now provides free cell phones and cellular service through the program SafeLink Wireless.

SafeLink Wireless is a program run through the website www.Safelinkwireless.com where if you are already on government benefits you can apply for one more.  The website makes it seem easy, if you are on food stamps, receive public housing or are on Medicaid then just sign up and SafeLink will send you a government subsidized cell phone and a year’s free service to go with it.

This program is particularly frivolous when states are cutting programs across the board in order to balance budgets. The federal government should take note of the struggles facing the states and follow their example and cut costs during these hard economic times not expand entitlements to luxury items like free cell phones.

“The founding fathers believed they were establishing a country where as long as you obeyed the law you could expect the government to stay out of your life.  Today this country is over taxed and over burdened with a government that wants to take care of all our needs.  As a member of Congress I will work to cut ridiculous programs like this and help restore some fiscal responsibility.  If Jerry McNerney won’t speak out to protect taxpayers then I will.” said Goehring.

Brad and his wife Kristin were married in 1997 and they have three children, Lexus, Bryson, and Brielle.  They make their home in Clements in northern San Joaquin County.

Brad currently serves on the Board of the Lodi Woodbridge Winegrape Commission and the California Association of Winegrape Growers.  Recognized statewide as a leader on agricultural issues, Brad serves as Director at Large for the San Joaquin County Farm Bureau and as national spokesman for the California Farm Bureau’s work on the Clean Water Act.
