John Eastman’s campaign for Attorney General today announced the endorsement of former Governor and Attorney General George Deukmejian, adding to the quick start the campaign has gotten off to.
“Having served as Attorney General, I know that the office can be a force that benefits California when held in good hands, and can do great harm when held in the wrong hands,” Deukmejian said. “I am happy to endorse John Eastman for Attorney General because with him in this important position it would be in good hands. John is a nationally recognized constitutional scholar and litigator who will bring a much needed expertise to the office.”
“George Deukmejian has a unique perspective of our state, having served both as Governor and as Attorney General. His confidence in me means a great deal, and is another big boost for my campaign,” Eastman said.
Deukmejian’s endorsement comes on the heels of the Eastman campaign announcing the support of Congressman Tom McClintock, the Association of Los Angeles Deputy District Attorneys, and a handful of the country’s most influential conservative talk radio hosts. Eastman, who until recently served as Dean of Chapman Law School, stepped down four weeks ago to dedicate his full efforts to campaigning statewide.
“John Eastman’s campaign is off to a fast start,” commented Eastman’s campaign strategist Jeff Flint. “From zero to Governor Deukmejian, Congressman McClintock, big name talk radio personalities, and Los Angeles’ frontline prosecutors in barely a month shows that John Eastman is building a campaign to win.”
