Jerry McNerney, Wrong from the Start on Healthcare
Posted By Press Release on March 10, 2010
Stockton (CA) -Congressman Jerry McNerney made news Tuesday when a story ran on the website Talking Points Memo (TMP) indicating that the embattled legislator was considering voting against the Senate Healthcare Bill. Republican Candidate for the 11th Congressional District, Brad Goehring was quick to point out that the House Bill McNerney supported was just as bad as its Senate counterpart but that McNerney is changing his tune as the legislation becomes increasingly unpopular in an election year.
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimated that the House version of the Healthcare Bill could cost taxpayers over $1 trillion dollars. The bill has stalled the economy as employers are unable to create jobs with the possibility of higher taxes and possible penalties looming over the passage of this legislation. The Democratic Majority in Congress has spent a year on healthcare legislation when they should have been focused on jobs and the economy, now faced with the possibility of admitting this year has been wasted they are considering pushing healthcare through on a strictly partisan vote.
“The healthcare legislation being considered in Washington today is just as bad as when Jerry McNerney voted to pass it last time. The bill still raises the national debt, raises taxes, creates more bureaucratic red tape and kills jobs, Jerry McNerney had no problem supporting any of this until he woke up and realized it was an election year,” said Goehring.
Goehring continued “Jerry has voted in lock step with Speaker Nancy Pelosi on healthcare, on the failed stimulus, and on cap and trade. My campaign has spent a year demanding that he be accountable to his constituents for voting in favor of these job killing bills yet he still refuses to hold a town hall and face the public. When I am elected to Congress I will put the constitution, the needs of my constituents, and the district before any Washington special interest or party leader.”
